I found the big bear, who I think would be a worthy trophy for her, but I don't have an option to tell her about it. Do I have to engage it in a fight first? How do I just see it?

as far as i remember u could tell her about it, and then she refused to use that information, because of cheating. well i killed the bear afterwards
and it progressed the quest. so go for it
