It costs 200 gold to buy the recipe for an iron helmet. However, instead of spending 200 gold, I can just create a new recipe, put in 5 iron bars, then put in a single dragon fly. This fulfills the requirement that I have at least two items, and will give me an iron helmet out.
Relatedly, I could also put in a brea/wolf fang instead of a dragonfly, and get out a helmet with +1 STR, without having the base helmet recipe to modify.
