I am in for item wear, but, as always, tied to a skill (tinkering, for example).
That's a pretty good way to get the econopmy going.
Items should wear when used. Tinkering would reduce this wear, either by reducing it, or allowing to mend broken or wearing items.
Basic, poor items could last a few uses, or hours, or whatever
However, the items of a legendary tinkerer should last months, even years, and many many uses, and almost never wear.
